LAKE MANYARA – SERENGETI- NGORONGORO – LAKE EYASI – TARANGIRE – ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

Arrival Day

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro (JRO) Airport, you will meet the driver for a transfer to the hotel, which will take less than one hour.

Day 1: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK.

After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park for full day safari with picnic lunches in hand. The park is situated inside of the Great Rift Valley with a distinctive evergreen forest that provides suitable habitat for olive baboons, monkeys, big families of elephants, tree climbing lions, and African cape buffalos. Midday you will enjoy lunch in the park before setting out for the open woodland areas where you will set your sights on giraffes, hippos and flamingos. After afternoon game drive, you will drive to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK VIA NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Today you will get up close and personal with one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites – the Ngorongoro conservation area. This unique multiuse site is one of the only in the world where man, livestock and wildlife live together in harmony. Your journey will continue with a visit to the Olduvai Gorge, known as the cradle of mankind. Considered to be one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world, the gorge is where Dr. Leakey discovered the world’s first humans in the 1950s. Along the way you will pass through a traditional Maasai village where you’ll have the opportunity to experience the culture and lifestyle of its nomadic people. You’ll be welcomed by the Maasai and get an up-close look at their handmade houses and unique traditional dances and afterwards continue to the central Serengeti national park to the hotel/ camp with game drive enroute.

Day 3: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

Early morning walking around Serengeti border observing sunrise and beautiful animals then depart for a game drive at the center of the Serengeti, called Seronera, is a network of rivers that ensure dependable water supplies attracting wildlife throughout the year. It is   here that you’ll have your best opportunity to spot the “Big Five”: lions, elephants, buffalo, rhino, and the leopard. There will be no shortage of animal sightings as the presence of permanent mud pools and shade attract giraffes, impalas, warthogs, and hippos. You might also catch a glimpse of cheetahs, hyenas and jackals.

Day 4: NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

Enjoy your last game viewing in the Serengeti, you will still be able to sight giraffes, impalas, warthogs, and hippos because due to the presence of permanent mud pools and shades which attracts animals. In the late afternoon you will proceed with game viewing enroute in the southern plains of the Serengeti to the Lodge at the crater rim for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5 NGORONGORO CRATER

After breakfast you will drive to the crater, for a full day game drive with a picnic lunch midday at the base of the crater. One of the 8th Wonders of the World, the crater is a very important refuge for a variety of wildlife. Most commonly seen are big bulls of elephants and the vulnerable species of black rhinos. The crater is also home to big herds of wildebeest and zebras, thomson and grant gazelles, hippopotamus, African cape buffalos, prides of lions, hyenas, several cats, golden and black backed jackals, and close to 400 species of   bird. Then at the late afternoon you will drive out all the way to the hotel in Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: LAKE EYASI- HADZABE AND DATOGA VISIT

On this day you will enjoy a full day of exploring Lake Eyasi. You’ll start by visiting the local bushman (Hadzabe) and learn about their hunting-gathering lifestyle before joining them in a simulated bow and arrow hunt. Later in the day you’ll spend some time with the Hadzabe, considered to be Africa’s traditional ironsmiths, and observe as they use charcoal ovens to smelt iron and steel from local ore and get to know the relationship that these two ethnic groups have. In the midday you will have a picnic lunch then drive back to Karatu for the preparation of the next day’s adventures.

Day 7: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Today you will meet your driver guide again for your drive to Tarangire National Park for a game drive. You’ll see firsthand all that Tarangire National Park is known for – the famous baobab tree, tree climbing pythons, and the largest concentration of African elephants. After a picnic lunch, you’ll resume your afternoon game drive where you’ll encounter other animals such as lions, giraffes, and zebras before ending the evening with dinner at the lodge.

Day 8: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK TO ARUSHA CITY

After breakfast you  will have a morning nature walk to lake Burunge for wildlife exploration, then HOT LUNCH at the lodge, followed by a drive to Arusha at a hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will drive to Arusha National Park with picnic lunch in hand. The entrance gate leads to the mountain forest inhabited by blue monkeys and colorful turacos and trogons – the only place on the northern safari circuit where black-and-white colobus monkey is easily seen. In the midst of the forest stands the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater, whose steep, rocky cliffs enclose a wide marshy floor dotted with herds of buffalo and warthog.

Further north, rolling grassy hills enclose the tranquil beauty of the Momela Lakes, each one a different hue of green or blue. Their shallows sometimes look pink with thousands of flamingos, the lakes support a rich selection of resident and migrant water birds, and waterbucks display their large horns on the watery borders. Giraffes, zebra herds, dik-dik can also be spotted. After Lunch you will drive to the lodge for activities with the local Maasai guides.
